And He Locked Me Out

Today has been a trying day. I started the day off with a 7 mile run at 5:30am with a friend. That part was great, except that he is moving and this run would be our last early morning run. But then Lil Man had speech at 9:30am, and I totally forgot that Lil Man's service coordinator was coming. My house wasn't in the best shape (and neither was I). I had on some ratty clothes. And to top it off, Lil Man didn't cooperate. This was one of the worst sessions we've had in awhile. After his session, I walked them out to their car. As I turned around to come back in, I saw a laughing Lil Man at the front door. Yep, he'd locked me out - sigh. So there I stood outside, barefoot, and locked out of my house in front of his speech teacher and service coordinator. Double sigh. Currently, he's eating pretzels while I type this and we watch Sprout. I'm hoping for a decent nap from him this afternoon. I have freelance work to do, but I also need some down time mys

Diapers Are My Friend - A First Time Mom's Adventures In Potty Training Part 2

Judge me, hate me, you're just not going to make me potty train my kid when we aren't ready. Diapers are my friend. Lil Man has been showing signs that he might be ready to potty train. But after a couple of days of lots of 'uh ohs' and the fact that he's starting to get frustrated, I've decided we aren't ready. Or maybe I'm just not ready? He's my baby. He's growing up. And maybe I'm just not ready for him to be potty trained? Or maybe, the truth is that diapers are just easier at this point. Regardless of the reason, the big boy underwear are back in the drawer. And the 'reward' M&Ms are now Mommy's snack. And we won't be doing the M&Ms again. Lil Man had a complete meltdown over getting ( 1 ) M&M. I knew better, but I thought, well that's what so many people say to use. So we tried. And yes, it was a TOTAL disaster. He went pee pee in the potty, and when he got just 1 M&M he went full blown meltd

A First Time Mom's First Adventures With Potty Training

I will warn you as I am typing this at 2:30pm there is an open container on my desk.... chocolate cake icing that is. Let's begin with yesterday, during naptime (or what was supposed to be naptime), Lil Man pulled his shorts off, his diaper down and peed all in his bed. I will pause a moment for you to catch your breath after laughing. Thankfully Mickey took the brunt of it, and the rest of the bed was dry. After several times being told "Do NOT get out of this bed" he finally napped. Today, well today, as I was trying to take care of my morning business, Lil Man grabbed the bathroom cabinet door and slammed it into his head catching his brown bone. Sigh. Picture the scene as he is trying to climb up on me as I'm sitting on the toilet. Husband in the shower. Mom on the toilet with a screaming toddler climbing into her lap. Dog sort of running in circles whining at all of the commotion. One ice pack later, the swelling in his eye starts to subside. Hubby leaves f

Bosley Goes to the Beach (English-Spanish) Review and Giveaway

As you know, Lil Man and I love books. And we've recently added a new one to our collection. It's called  Bosley Goes to the Beach, and it's by Timothy Johnson from theLanguageBear.com . These books are designed to teach young children new words in various languages. We chose the English-Spanish version. But there are several options to choose from such as Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian and Japanese. I really enjoyed the story. It's about a bear named Bosley and his adventure at the beach. The story was well written and easy to follow. And the illustrations were excellent.  We were reading the Kindle version, and I liked how some of the key words were different colors which made it easy to point out in both languages. I would definitely recommend this book to friends. In fact, I couldn't mind having the entire series. And because of that, I'm giving away a copy to one of my readers.  One lucky winner will receive either a print or d

Yochi Yochi Shoes Review

Aren't these the cutest shoes?  They are from Yochi Yochi . There are several styles to choose from. In addition to toddler shoes, they also have adorable baby rattle socks. But sadly, my Lil Man is way past baby socks. He's actually in a size 8 toddler shoe now. I used the sizing chart that was online to measure his foot (just in case). And the shoes run true to size.  When Lil Man saw the shoes, he was pretty excited to try them on. But, he was even MORE excited when he stood up in them. They squeak. And that's why the rest of the pictures are blurry. I couldn't get him to be still long enough to take a picture. I wasn't aware that they had squeakers in them. But they were a big hit for Lil Man. And I found out on their Yochi Yochi Facebook Page , that the squeakers are removable for those times that walking must be quiet ;) But these were fun shoes that Lil Man really enjoyed wearing. We actually received several comments of how cute t

Not The Anniversary We Were Hoping For

If you've been following my blog, then you know that we don't have any family around. Lil Man is 2, and we've only had 2 dates since he's been born. Yesterday (7/7) was our 6th Year Anniversary. Since we didn't have a sitter, we thought we'd go to a drive-in. We took him when we was younger. We had a great time last year as he watched the movie and then slept. Another time that we went last year was a disaster. But we were hoping that since he was older etc that we could make this a fun family outing, and we would at least be doing ' something ' for our anniversary. Worst.Night.Ever. We had to get there 2 hours early to get a place to park. It was packed. Every possible spot that would fit a vehicle was occupied. But we got there, got the blanket and chairs all situated in the back of the truck. I walked and got us some snacks. And for the first hour or so it was going fairly good. But then Lil Man was becoming more demanding in what he did or di

Choosing Natural Sweetness

Let's just say I fell off the wagon for a few days. It would have been ok, if I'd eaten sweets in moderation. And honestly, I won't even type here just how much sugar I've had the last few days over the holiday weekend. The reality is that it was a choice, and I CHOSE to eat the ridiculously huge amounts of sugar. I wasn't stressed. I wasn't eating from boredom or sadness or happiness. This wasn't an emotional eating binge. It was really just that I wanted the sugar. I chose to eat it, and then once I did, I continued to eat it. And now I have another choice. I can beat myself up over and over, but what's done is done. I can throw in the towel, and just say forget it. Or I can begin again. I'm choosing the last option and beginning again. I really do want to get healthier, and I would oh so love to be able to loose my gut (or some of it). And I know that sugar is a drug, an addiction, and a pleasure of mine. But I also need to remind myself that

Truly Blessed - 4th Of July Fireworks - Our Upcoming Anniversary

I'm am blessed. There is no other way to say it than I am truly blessed. I sit here on the 4th of July with a 2 year old taking a nap, a husband happily working on a project, and I've spent the day being with my family. Last night we took Lil Man to see fireworks for the first time. I was beyond excited. I wasn't sure how he would react to any of it. First of all, we got there (probably a little too early for us), and had to wait 2 hours.   He was handling it all ok, but I could tell that he was starting to get tired, and a little demanding. But thankfully the fireworks (in the sky) started before any massive meltdowns. When they started, it was loud, and he was a little startled but not scared or anything. He started yelling "Oh No!, Oh No!, Oh No!" and covered his eyes. But after the first few went off, he realized it was 'ok' and then he was ooing and aahhing. We heard him yelling "Whoa, Wow, More, and Lights". It was so much fun t

Rosey What? A Fever Then A Rash

Oh the things no one prepares you for when it comes to Motherhood... Lil Man developed a fever last Thursday. I knew he didn't seem his usual self, and he was super cranky. I contributed it to cutting his two year molars. I could see part of a tooth coming in. He had a fever for a couple of days (maybe 2.5 to 3). And then on Monday, he was even crankier, but he didn't have a fever. He did however have a rash that was developing. I called the pediatrician's office to see if I needed to bring him in. I was told unless his rash got worse, or he developed another fever, that it was probably just from his fever the few days before. As the day went on, he got crankier and the rash got angrier. By last night, it was decided that I was calling today to get him checked out. The rash covered his neck, chest, back, head, buttocks, and face. Diagnosis? Roseola . Thankfully since we've reached the rash stage, he isn't contagious anymore. And supposedly after a couple da
