Toddler Verses Stone Fireplace

Boys will be boys. Lil Man has had a tough time adjusting to the time change. Plus we had some family visit, and it threw off his sleep schedule a little. So after a very long naptime war (which he won), he was an over-tired, over-stimulate unhappy little boy. He was coming down the stairs with Hubby when he lunged forward and went head first into the stone fireplace. And this was the result.  He's ok, but it was scary. And then the same day that he fell, he came down with a head/chest cold that night. We wound up taking him to an Urgent Care clinic to get checked out. With his asthma I didn't want to take any chances.  But you know how it is when little ones are sick... so we've had very little sleep the last few days. I ran my 2nd Marathon this past Sunday (and it didn't go well. I Gave Up During My Second Marathon)   So the fact that he has napped today (the first nap in SEVERAL days) has truly been a blessing. :)

Fevers Are Scary

Fevers are scary... or at least they are to me .. especially when I'm inexperienced with dealing with them. After my 20 mile run on Saturday, I'd only been home about 20 minutes, when Lil Man started crying/whining and just wouldn't stop. After about an hour, I noticed his temp was a little over 99. I knew something was up. By night time he had a full blown temperature. At 1:30am it was the worst. He was in bed with me because his breathing was just too fast for my comfort level. He woke up screaming at 1:30am with a temp of close to 103, and it was too early give him any more meds to bring it down. I know this isn't 'major' for most people and experienced parents. But to us, it was pretty major - especially because he was just crying and we couldn't figure out 'what' was wrong. We got up and went to the couch where he wanted to watch one of his favorite shows. His fever came down some, and we literally (all 3 of us) laid on the couch watching ...

If You Are Curious

Kid gets flu. Kid gets pneumonia in addition to the flu. Kid stops eating/drinking. Kid almost dehydrates. Begin the hour by hour watch about having him admitted to the hospital. Mom gets low grade fever. Mom's fever keeps rising. Mom develops a hacking cough. Kid starts having watery explosive poops to the point that it goes up the back and down the leg at the same time. Mom is busy constantly trying to clean up the kid and keep him comfortable. Kid will drink but not eat. Kid will eat but not drink. Kid poops more. Mom's head feels as if it is about to explode. Mom is dizzy - too dizzy to be safe home alone with kid. How is it possible to have this much snot? Dad has to miss work to come help. Mom sleeps. Kid sleeps. Dad sleeps. More poop. Much more poop. Then there is vomit, followed by more poop. Mom gets her heart broken in a way that somehow has wound up hurting more than other heart breaks. Let down. Disappointed. Mad that she allowed herself to open up to people and ...
