The Girl I Don't Want To Be

As I sat there engrossed in one of my favorite TV shows, I couldn't help but let the tears flow. Lil Man was asleep. Hubby was at work. And I was taking a few moments out of this very hectic day for me.

But there she was, everything that I didn't want to be, yet oddly we were very similar. And as I watched the drama unfold, I couldn't help but picture myself in her situation. And although I am very aware that this is a fabricated television show, it suddenly felt a little too real.

Because it's often way too easy to let 'life get in the way', to let relationships suffer from lack of attention, to get self absorbed in our own problems and feelings instead of looking at what others may be feeling. It's easy to slip into 'Me, Me, Me and how we have been mistreated (or feel that we have)' when we don't see how maybe our actions are being perceived by others.

People say that each day we have a choice. But it comes down to each moment in our day we have a choice. Do we get upset over spilled milk or do we say 'It happens' and show compassion while helping to clean it up? Do we blow up when someone doesn't handle a situation in the way that we think it should be handled or do we show a little compassion, extend a little grace and forgive where forgiveness is due?

I feel as if someone just threw a glass of cold water in my face and said "Wake up". I saw the girl that I don't want to be.

  1. Sometimes the more we try not to be her we end up being her. This is a very touching poem

  2. It sounds like a thought provoking TV show - it's amazing how seemingly mundane things can trigger quite profound realisations. I'm glad you know what you do and don't want and thing we all need those 'wake up' calls at times.

  3. Hey, good for you! You had an opportunity to learn something about yourself then do better. Sometimes watching TV is a good thing! At least you were open to glimpsing yourself. Like you say here, so many of us are so self-absorbed. Not everyone would have had the insight you had.

2 Weeks Post Mohs Surgery

May 26, 2021 3:40pm  Finally, the phone call that I'd been waiting on. It was the Medical Center. ( Finally, we can schedule my surgery. ) She tells me who she is, and then tells me that she has a cancellation for tomorrow. ( Me stammering... )  "Ok, but I was thinking the end of June."   Then I hear "We just had a moment to look at your file. We really don't think that you should wait. We really think you should come in tomorrow at 8:15am" ( Me stammering again ) "Ok, I'll be there."  Wait, what? My mind is all over the place. I'm supposed to work. How am I going to get our son to school? Will my husband be able to go with me on such short notice. I expected this to be the end of June, not tomorrow. I'm not prepared! I was overcome with emotion.  May 26, 2021 Surgery Day I woke up at 1am with a horrible headache. By the time we arrived at the surgery center, I was definitely a bundle of nerves. I got checked in, went through the usual ...

Ecosak Nylon Nut Bag Review

I have been compensated in the form of a gift card/money/coupon and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free. All opinions expressed are mine and honest in nature. Well, can you believe that I am trying out a nut bag to make my own almond milk? (I'll pause a moment so that you can let the shock wear off!) I can honestly say that never in my life did I intend on making my own almond milk. But as you know, we are making some changes to our diet. So I decided I would give it a try.  And with the Ecosak I also received some recipes which really helped since I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do. I asked Lil Man if he wanted to help me, and he was more than thrilled. Apparently making almond milk was an exciting and fun thing for him. First things first was to wash the Ecosak (easy to do) and soak the nuts. Yep, I put some raw almonds in a bowl, covered them with water and let them soak 6-8 hours or so. After they had been soaked, I...

Window Bird Feeder By Yellow Beaks

Lil Man has been beside himself since the Clear Window Bird Feeder by Yellow Beaks arrived in the mail. He couldn't wait to get it up and outside. He's very anxious for the birds to come. I wasn't sure how the suction cups would hold up. I've never, in the past, had much luck with any type of suction cup. But so far it's been a week with varying temperature changes, and the suction cups are holding strong. The construction seems sturdy, and it looks to be well-made. It also will be easy to clean out. I know with bird feeders they can get a little yucky sometimes, but this will be easy to remove, spray out and clean up.  So far the birds haven't visited us yet. Our neighbor has several bird feeders and he is keeping all of the birds over there (ha). But Lil Man is checking daily, sometimes multiple times a day, for a bird. So I can't report how the birds like the feeder, but I have to say that we honestly do.  You can find the Wind...
