Not The Best Mommy Week - Feeling Frustrated With Myself

I'm not having the best 'mommy' week this week. Yes, I know it's just Tuesday. So I'm hoping the rest of the week is going to get better! But it's just been one of those weeks where I feel like a total failure as a parent... sigh. And it has a lot to do with the fact that Lil Man has refused to nap this week.

Maybe he's ready to give up naps? It's hard to say. The days that he does nap he can sleep 3.5 HOURS. So it's hard for me to believe that he will go from really long naps to just not napping at all. So maybe this is a phase? Regardless, I've spent the last 2 days trying to convince and just out right beg Lil Man to nap. Yes, I realize just how silly that sounds to try to get a 2 year old to nap because I told him to do so.

Tomorrow, I plan to try a new tactic. He doesn't have to 'nap', but he does have to spend some quiet time in his room. And I'm going to try not to run in and out of his room 100 times during his 'quiet' time. That's what's been happening the last two days. And each time I go in, the frustration increases. So maybe this will work even if he doesn't nap. I hope so. These last two days have been a struggle.

How old was your little one when he/she stopped napping? Any tips on how to keep my sanity?

  1. Ugh....I know this stage too well :( My three year old is 90% done with naps but this started around 2.5 years maybe earlier. If he napped, then he would stay up until 11 p.m. but if he didn't then he'd fall asleep at 5 or 6 p.m. then wake up at 9 p.m. raring to go or wake up at 5 am raring to go. I don't know, my son only naps now when we hike or when we are going to have a long night stay up past 10 p.m. then I force him to nap mid day.

Maybe try to push back his nap, maybe like 2 pm.? Thank God my 19 month old still naps, I still go crazy some days.

    1. Well on Sunday he slept over 3.5 hours. So I can't believe that he all of the sudden doesn't need a nap! I'm hoping this is a very SHORT lived phase. I do freelance work. So I use naptime to work on that. But I really need that time to recharge!

So, on those days that you 'forced' a nap because it was going to be a long night, how did you do that?

  2. Been there. Not much advice except to stick with it and eventually it will become the norm. I agree that you need to stop checking on him, though, unless it sounds like he's in need of you--like a physical problem!

    1. Yep, I've cut down on 'checking on him' and it's helped!

  3. Don't know about your little boy, but as soon as I put up room darkening panels I had no problems taking siestas!

  4. Don't get discouraged, kids often change their sleeping and nap patterns. This is especially true when they are transitioning from toddlers to younger kids. I'm sure you are a great parent and this does not reflect on your parenting at all.

2 Weeks Post Mohs Surgery

May 26, 2021 3:40pm  Finally, the phone call that I'd been waiting on. It was the Medical Center. ( Finally, we can schedule my surgery. ) She tells me who she is, and then tells me that she has a cancellation for tomorrow. ( Me stammering... )  "Ok, but I was thinking the end of June."   Then I hear "We just had a moment to look at your file. We really don't think that you should wait. We really think you should come in tomorrow at 8:15am" ( Me stammering again ) "Ok, I'll be there."  Wait, what? My mind is all over the place. I'm supposed to work. How am I going to get our son to school? Will my husband be able to go with me on such short notice. I expected this to be the end of June, not tomorrow. I'm not prepared! I was overcome with emotion.  May 26, 2021 Surgery Day I woke up at 1am with a horrible headache. By the time we arrived at the surgery center, I was definitely a bundle of nerves. I got checked in, went through the usual ...

Ecosak Nylon Nut Bag Review

I have been compensated in the form of a gift card/money/coupon and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free. All opinions expressed are mine and honest in nature. Well, can you believe that I am trying out a nut bag to make my own almond milk? (I'll pause a moment so that you can let the shock wear off!) I can honestly say that never in my life did I intend on making my own almond milk. But as you know, we are making some changes to our diet. So I decided I would give it a try.  And with the Ecosak I also received some recipes which really helped since I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to do. I asked Lil Man if he wanted to help me, and he was more than thrilled. Apparently making almond milk was an exciting and fun thing for him. First things first was to wash the Ecosak (easy to do) and soak the nuts. Yep, I put some raw almonds in a bowl, covered them with water and let them soak 6-8 hours or so. After they had been soaked, I...

Window Bird Feeder By Yellow Beaks

Lil Man has been beside himself since the Clear Window Bird Feeder by Yellow Beaks arrived in the mail. He couldn't wait to get it up and outside. He's very anxious for the birds to come. I wasn't sure how the suction cups would hold up. I've never, in the past, had much luck with any type of suction cup. But so far it's been a week with varying temperature changes, and the suction cups are holding strong. The construction seems sturdy, and it looks to be well-made. It also will be easy to clean out. I know with bird feeders they can get a little yucky sometimes, but this will be easy to remove, spray out and clean up.  So far the birds haven't visited us yet. Our neighbor has several bird feeders and he is keeping all of the birds over there (ha). But Lil Man is checking daily, sometimes multiple times a day, for a bird. So I can't report how the birds like the feeder, but I have to say that we honestly do.  You can find the Wind...
