Cool Weather

Fall is in the air. I think today's high was around 50. The leaves are turning, and it's actually quite beautiful here. I've never been a big fan of fall. But I have to admit, this being my second Fall season in PA, I think I just might be a fan of Fall. Truth be told, I'm kindof ready for snow. I'm not really ready for the cold, but I'm looking forward to the first snow which I'm sure will be awhile. I'm going to MS this weekend. I'll miss HG, but I'm ready to see the folks in MS.

It's been awhile since I've written. It hasn't been for lack of things to write, but more laziness on my part for not writing. I can't believe how cool it is here already. I've already worn long-sleeved shirts twice this week. And as I write this I'm wearing sweat pants instead of my usual shorts. The air has a cool crispness to it. I imagine before long the leaves will start turning. Fall really is beautiful here. I start swimming lessons on Monday. I'm a little nervous. As with anything new with me, it's just the 'something new nerves'. I'm sure once I get there and get started that I'll be fine. I can't say that I look forward to going every Monday from now until Thanksgiving. But hopefully once I've completed the course I can swim more than just dog paddle. It is a little embarassing to go to the gym to swim with people swimming in the lap lanes and me dog paddling along in my lane. I got butterflies in stomach tonight when I...

I had an enjoyable day yesterday with HG. We went to West Virginia to drop off our wedding rings to get them sized. I knew that I would miss not having my ring. What I didn’t realize was HOW much I would miss not wearing my engagement/wedding rings. But I had fun yesterday. We went and dropped our rings off, and I picked out a birthstone ring that I liked. (HG partially contributed to the cost…. part of my birthday present) HG let me bypass Waffle house, and we ate at Hardees for breakfast, hot dogs (my fav) for lunch and Cracker Barrel for supper. We spent about 8 hours on the road in the car. It was fun. I have to say that HG went out of his way yesterday to be thoughtful. We laughed most of the day. We also compromised on a headboard…. NO Texas stars (woo hoo). This weekend has zoomed by. Today I’m washing clothes and trying to get things prepared for next week. I cooked HG a pumpkin pie after cooking breakfast. Supper tonight will be leftovers though. I have a very busy week ahead ...

It has been an enjoyable day today. I got up and ran 6 miles – love the feeling of accomplishment. Then I made HG breakfast/lunch. After cleaning up the kitchen, I baked a blackberry pie and made a gallon of sweet tea. Most of the laundry is done, other than being folded. True, I have housework to do, but I decided to have a leisure day the rest of the day. So I have spent the rest of the day relaxing and reading while HG has been working outside. It feels good to have a little down time…

Friday, February 6, 2009 - LOST

Ok, I will rightfully admit that I am directionally challenged. Anyone who knows me will testify to this. My husband has received more than one frantic phone call where I am crying and sometimes cussing that I am lost.. not just a little lost.. but so lost that the GPS has stopped talking altogether. I suppose she got tired of saying ‘recalculating… recalculating’. Leave it to me to even get the GPS confused to where it doesn’t even know where I am. My latest directional mishap was yesterday. After work, I drove to my new running location and ran 4 miles. Normally I would drive to go pick up HG from his office, but instead I was going home. Thinking there might be a different route to take, I put my home address in the GPS. Yep, ‘she’ told me to turn down a street I had never been on. I felt tightness in my chest as I am terrified of getting lost, but I decided to trust this machine to guide me home. I turned faithfully where she stated. I took the next street as she guided me on my wa...

My parents are coming to visit. I am so excited! I still have to wait a couple more months before I can see them. But I am so excited they are coming. It’s been too long. Dad has never seen our house or where we live. And Mom hasn’t been here in over a year. So I’m already counting down the days.

Taking Things for Granted

My heart goes out to those who are in need. Having to work the reception desk this week, I've experienced first hand some of life's hard lessons. One homeless man came in for a voucher for a belt. His only belt had broke, and he was unable to keep up his pants, which were too large. He tied a shirt around his waist to try to keep them up. He had all of his belongings, what little he had with him. Today, a couple came in looking for employment. The standard forms were given to them and they filled out the paper work. Once completed, he handed me the clipboard with desperation in his eyes begging to please just talk to someone about his application. I told him that all apps would go to HR and would be processed. He and his wife walked outside. Less than five minutes later, they came back in, begging to speak with someone. He has no job, he can't find employment and he's going to lose his home. I called HR and couldn't locate anyone, but told him to check back knowing ...
